5 TIPS TO KICK-START YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY

INTRO

Many people are intimidated by starting a new fitness journey, but it can be made so much easier by taking small steps to ensure that your new habits will stick and you will see changes in your body and in your mind. Follow these 5 steps below to kick-start your fitness journey in the right way!

  1. SET YOUR GOALS

Having goals in place is a must! Think about what you want to achieve, whether it’s to lose some weight, build some strength, improve your endurance or simply to move more! Having a clear idea of what you want to achieve will help to keep you on track and motivated.

  1. DON’T DO TOO MUCH

Don’t over do it in your first week! It’s easy to get over excited, but this will only lead to burn out or even worse, injury. It’s much better to ease yourself in to it and build up as you go. It’s better to be consistent than to push yourself too hard.

  1. DO A COMBINATION OF CARDIO & STRENGTH

Combining both cardio and strength training will help you to lose fat and build lean muscle, which will improve your overall fitness levels. Try to do a combination of both running, cycling etc and weight training.

  1. FUEL YOUR BODY

Unfortunately, exercise alone will not be enough. You will need to fuel your body with a good, balanced diet that will give you the energy you need and also aid in the recovery process. Ensure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day and consuming enough protein to help your muscles to recover.

  1. BE CONSISTENT & KEEP A DIARY

Try to keep a diary of your workouts, your food and your improvements. Celebrating small victories will help to keep you motivated and on track to reaching your goals. Consistency is key here, so make sure you are doing something every day, even if it is just a brisk walk.

Starting your fitness journey really isn’t as scary as you think! By setting your goals, not pushing yourself too much, doing a mix of cardio and strength, eating a balanced diet and being consistent you will be well on your way to creating a great foundation for a fitter, healthier and more confident version of yourself.
